This one has information on a Thomson family that originated from the illegitimate son of an illegitmate son of the royal Stewart family. The information a few paragraphs from the top concerning Alexander, Earl of Mar is where the this Thomson family's origins are first mentioned.

For completeness, part 1 of David Thomson is here:

Part 2 has much more information about the origins of the family. Part 1 talks mostly about David in New Hampshire.

The David Thomson ancestors mentioned in another thread lived in Corstorphine, which at the time was near Edinburgh. There was a family of Todds/Tods who lived in the Edingurgh area in the late 1400s. If my memory is correct, one of this family served as Treasurer of Scotland under James III.

I looked up Corstorphine and found a link to the "Barony of Corstorphine". The tab entitled "Corstorphine - the Barony" gives the history of the Barony. A search of the page for "Tod" will reveal that an Agnes Tod was the second wife of Sir Alexander Forrester, Laird of Corstorphine sometime before 1473. I dunno if she's related to the Treasurer Todds or not, but thought someone might be interested in a 15th century Tod tidbit.
