Hello Everyone,
The 2009 North East Florida Highland Games will be in Jacksonville, FL at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Saturday February 28th. This is a one-day event, Saturday only. I am waiting for confirmation that we will have a Clan Thompson Society tent at the games, but that is the intent. I will keep everyone posted. My son Taylor and I will be there!!!

Let this post confirm that the Clan Thompson Society will be in attendance at the 2009 North East Florida Highland Games - and we should have a great tent location!!!

Mary and I will be at LaBelle Swamp Cabbage Festival its an annual event here.
Can;t wait to get some Swamp Cabbage Fritters, gator tail and Seminole Indian fry bread
BTW Swamp Cabbage is also known as Hearts of Palm to many.

Yay! Thanks Duke - I know working a table is a chore, but you do get to do a lot of meeting/greeting and a chance to let other Thom(p)sons know what we are all about and that we HAVE a history! And, a plus of working a tent is that you have a place to sit down!
Don't forget your camera............ are John and Sarah going to be able to make it, Duke?
Swamp cabbage......I think my tummy would do less of a flip-flop thinking "heart of palm." I learned to make Indian fry bread (soapapillas) from some Navajo friends when I lived in Arizona some 35 years ago. I don't know if it's the same, but it should be close.... they were still making it in clay home-made ovens on flat rocks!

Thanks guys, I did leave a message for John and Sarah but have not heard back. Will call John tomorrow. Confirmed again today that all is in place for the games in Jacksonville, FL. Come if you can!!!

I have to second that. We had such good times with Tom and Booner and Harold and everybody, but I definitely regretting leaving the camera behind.

Mary we were not able to get fry bread this year, seems that the Seminoles are receiving so much money from their share of gambling profits from their casinos they don't need to earn any extra money

Well, I guess it's nice that SOMEBODY is prosperous in the current economy!
You'll have to start making your own...........it's especially yummy as a desert with sugar/cinnamon on it :D

Mary, we had Mexican soapapillas in Colorado. Fried flat bread that made it puff to form a pocket, a little drizzle of honey.........now I'm getting hungry! :-\

Hello everyone,
Printing forms, packing up, loading up, laying out the kilts, and Taylor and I are off around 5:30am!!! Will send pictures from my phone from the event again Mary, so keep an eye out.
Hope someone we know shows up, and lots of people we don't know yet.

You and Taylor enjoy the day! THAT, above all is the goal of this group, I know. Welcome new family and friends, but have fun.
We know the clan is in good hands with you two!
I'm sure Mary will be watching for photos and I'll remind her just in case. I hope you have great weather and turnout.
