A mystery for you to solve.
« on: May 13, 2012, 03:22:35 PM »
Here is a question perhaps some of you seasoned genealogists can answer..

William Alexander Calhoun Thompson's military discharge paper says that he was born in Polk Co Ga, but that wasn't a county until 1851. So I thought perhaps Polk, Co Tenn, because All of the other siblings were born in Tenn (until 1850) and his dad remarried in McMinn Co Tenn... but that didn't become a county until  Nov 1839-according to the death cert. he was born in Jan 1838 (this date is consistent with his age according to the 1920 census). Any suggestions?

The census records are consistent after 1850:
1850-Tenn
1860-Ga
1870-Ga
1880-Ga
1900-Ga
1910-Ga
1920-Ga
