Meaning of devices in chief...
« on: July 09, 2011, 02:54:58 PM »
I was reading through Wm. Newton's A Display of Heraldry (1846), and ran across a mention of the familiar stag's-head arms. Thought I'd pass it along to you all.

The book concerns itself primarily with English arms, so I was surprised to see it listed. Apparently a Thomson was involved with the Crusades at some point! I hadn't seen a version with the cross pattée on the stag's head before -- anyone recognize it?
